Rangers transfer news: British club make last-gasp bid for first-team player

Rangers could see a first-team player parting ways with the club as the loan window remains open.

Barry Ferguson replaced Philippe Clement at the helm and he will have a say on the ins and outs at the club until the end of the season.

Thus far, no decision has been made on who the next permanent manager will be, with Ferguson joining only on an interim basis.

Leon King appears set to join Queen’s Park

Daily Record reported on 28 February that Queen’s Park have made a bid to sign Leon King on loan.

The Scottish Championship side made the headlines earlier this season as they knocked Gers out of the Scottish FA Cup.

It’s understood that Gers are open to letting King leave until the end of the season with Ferguson green-lighting the deal.

The interim boss is open for him to leave on a short-term basis as Robin Propper, John Souttar, Leon Balogun and Clinton Nsiala are ahead of him in the pecking order.

The young Scottish defender has Champions League experience as well and made a few first-team appearances this season under Clement.

Rafael Fernandes must now get a chance to prove his worth at Ibrox

King’s imminent loan move to Queen’s Park opens a critical window for Rafael Fernandes to prove his worth at Ibrox.

With King set to depart until season’s end under Ferguson’s approval, the defensive pecking order shifts.

Fernandes, a January loan signing from Lille, has been underutilised, managing just three appearances, including a sole start in the Scottish Cup loss to Queen’s Park.

Clement’s reluctance to play him, despite defensive inconsistencies – Nsiala’s struggles and Tavernier’s occasional central shifts- left Fernandes sidelined.

Now, with Ferguson willing to shake things up, Fernandes’ athleticism and potential as a ball-playing centre-back could address Gers’ backline frailties.

This move forces the Portuguese defender into the spotlight, offering a chance to secure a permanent Ibrox future before his loan expires.
