Eddie Howe makes ‘most disappointing’ claim as two Newcastle United stars at fault in Liverpool loss

Eddie Howe was left frustrated after Newcastle United’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.

The Magpies’ awful record at Anfield continued, as Newcastle United lost to Liverpool on Wednesday night.

While the game was close in terms of the scoreline, it never felt truly close as a contest. Newcastle United had spells of dominance in possession, but never really looked like scoring.

At the other end of the pitch, Eddie Howe’s side gave away cheap goals. Steve McManaman does not think Nick Pope is to blame for Liverpool’s first goal, although the 32-year-old was slow to get down to his left after Dominik Szoboszlai’s shot.

All in all, it was another disappointing night for Newcastle United at Anfield.

It was a disappointing night for Eddie Howe, who saw his side fail to deliver at both ends of the pitch.

The Newcastle United manager admitted that was his major frustration from the game during an interview with the club’s official website.

“It was just really frustrating the two actions for the goals,” he said.

“That’s the most disappointing thing. Very similar. Passes into the box. Man unmarked. They’ve scored relatively simple looking goals. They’re very simple for us to stop, which is the frustrating thing.

“Then you look at us with the ball. Similar really. Around the box, I don’t think we were particularly good. Our final ball wasn’t great, but in between the boxes I thought we were really competitive.”

Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali do so much right for Newcastle United in midfield, but they both endured difficult evenings on Merseyside.

In fact, they were both guilty of making mistakes for the goals that handed Liverpool victory.
