Surprise Leicester sackings and what it means for club

Heads are beginning to roll at Leicester. Upper management is electing to take action after disappointing results. It could be too little, too late at this point. However, executives sent a clear message to everyone throughout the building. Improvement is needed now. And change will come, one way or another.

A statement was issued on the club’s website. They informed their fans about Ben Dawson and Danny Alcock no longer being part of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s staff. Both joined with Steve Cooper’s hiring. And the former took over for one game as interim manager. While the latter filled the role of goalkeeper coach throughout his time at King Power.

The midseason transition saw these two kept on by RvN. It’s not unusual to keep on the same people. But typically, when someone new takes over, they bring their own familiar and trusted colleagues into the fold with them. The Dutch manager is too early into his managerial career to have that luxury. And it made sense to not rock the boat too much more after Cooper left.

However, the Leicester decision-makers are choosing this time to send a message. There are a lot of unknowns at this time, particularly with a strong looming relegation possibility. But complacency and acceptance of these past results couldn’t be an option any longer.

First of many potential Leicester moves

Naturally, Dawson and Alcock are far from those most immediately responsible for the current Premier League standing. Regardless, moving on from these two indicates one of two things. The powers that be feel that the current manager needs more and better support. And this is likely the case. Van Nistelrooy is still a newcomer to the demands of top-level coaching.

It also shows that they believe new faces will be needed in the East Midlands, regardless of whether there is another change at the head or not.
