San Francisco 49ers get takeover boost as new Rangers shareholder ready to sell

San Francisco 49ers need a decent number of Rangers shareholders to sell their stake in the club as they plan to own a 51 per cent stake.

The NFL outfit, with Paraag Marathe playing a key role, are keen on completing the takeover in the next few months.

The Gers’ ownership is fragmented, but it’s understood that many inside the club want the deal to go ahead.

Dave King, John Bennett and Barry Scott happy to sell stake in Rangers

Dave King has already made it clear that he plans on selling his shares in the club.

At 12.6 per cent, he is the single largest shareholder in the Ibrox outfit and is open to the 49ers taking control.

Along with him, The Athletic reported on 26 February, that John Bennett, who owns little over 7 per cent, is also happy to sell.

Former director Barry Scott, who owns just 1.5 per cent, also wants to sell in order to facilitate the NFL giants in becoming the new owners.

This comes as the outline for the American investors to seal the takeover has been agreed.

Ibrox faithful cannot be neglected under the new regime

For years, the Ibrox faithful have been neglected by the club’s hierarchy.

The 49ers’ potential takeover hinges on prioritising fans to ensure long-term success and stability.

They are the heartbeat of the club, sustaining its identity and passion through decades of triumphs and turmoil.

Engaging them front and centre in post-takeover plans fosters trust, especially after years of financial struggles and investor fatigue under prior regimes.

The 49ers, through their experience with Leeds United, understand that alienated supporters can derail even the best-laid strategies as Leeds faced fan unrest after relegation, yet rallied with strategic investment.

Rangers fans, desperate to close the gap with rivals Celtic, crave a voice in the club’s revival.
