Robbin Propper ‘finished at Rangers’ after Barry Ferguson appointment
Robin Propper will be looking over his shoulders at Rangers after what Barry Ferguson has said about him.
The ex-Gers midfielder was appointed manager at Ibrox after Philippe Clement’s dismissal on Sunday (23 February).
With the Belgian head coach struggling to get the best out of his squad, it was long overdue that he lost his job after defeat to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership at home on 22 February.
It wasn’t surprising to see Patrick Stewart pull the plug on Clement, but Ferguson’s appointment as interim boss has caught a few people by surprise.
Ferguson doesn’t seem to fancy Propper at Rangers
Propper signed for the Light Blues last summer from Twente but has looked out of place in the Scottish Premiership.
The 31-year-old looks to have had a hard time settling in at the Bears and the style of football played in Scotland.
Clement still relied on Propper at Ibrox, but it remains to be seen whether the centre-back will continue to keep his place after Ferguson’s arrival.
The interim boss made his feelings known about the Dutchman earlier in the season before they came up against Tottenham in the Europa League on 12 December, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Ibrox to witness Propper change under Ferguson?
Ferguson has expressed concern about Propper not being quick enough, and the Dutchman may have to be worried about his position at Rangers.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (11 December, 52:10), the ex-Gers midfielder said: “They’re coming up against a team who attack you very quickly.
“That could be an issue with Propper, as he’s blessed with no pace whatsoever.”
John Souttar and the former Twente defender formed the first-choice partnership at the start of the season, but after poor results, Clement subsequently made a few changes.
Leon Balogun made a place for himself in the starting lineup before being sidelined earlier in the campaign.
