The first player Barry Ferguson has to drop for Rangers to get him back to his best

With hindsight, Rangers changed too much, too soon this season with Philippe Clement relying on a lot of players with not a lot of experience.

Experience of playing for a team that has to win, experience of playing in a physical league, experience of playing against low-block/long ball teams or experience, full-stop.

One such player is Jefte who, after one season in Cyprus found himself playing in front of 50,000 fans every other week at Rangers with every misplaced pass seeing the sort of reaction that other fans have when their team concedes a goal.

What has happened to Jefte’s form for Rangers?

Philippe Clement has lost his job as Rangers manager with Barry Ferguson now the man in charge.

After the defeat to St Mirren, changes need to be made.  One of those is to give Jefte a break.

Gone are the marauding overlapping runs or the acceleration inside the pitch to create overloads in midfield and drag players away from the left winger.

With two assists in 39 appearances, Jefte has yet to hit the sort of numbers needed in a team where the full-backs are so important, especially in domestic football.

It will be hoped that he steps up a level next season, however, it’s time to take him out the firing line and give him a rest to help get his sharpness back.

Should Ridvan Yilmaz get his place back for Rangers?

Ridvan Yilmaz has been consistently inconsistent in terms of his availability and it would be a surprise if one of the highest earners at the club isn’t moved on in the summer.

Jefte will be here for the long term despite links to Chelsea, but playing Ridvan gives Rangers a better chance of maximising his value.

These are the scenarios that the club need to look at now, with the season all but over.
