Philippe Clement ‘sacked’ by Rangers with two ex-Ibrox stars tipped to return to dugout
Rangers manager Philippe Clement stands on the brink of being sacked as Gers boss only 16 months on from being appointed at Ibrox.
The Belgian boss became the club’s fourth manager in only two years back in October 2023 when he replaced Michael Beale in Glasgow.
But after a disastrous run of results at Rangers, the devastating 2-0 defeat to St Mirren at Ibrox appears to have been the final nail in the coffin with the club now set to act.
Philippe Clement sacked by Rangers
It is being widely reported that Rangers have pulled the trigger on Philippe Clement.
Heart & Hand had hinted at Clement’s future being decided with the likes of journalist Chris Jack now following that up by confirming the news.
Reports in the Daily Record – who had earlier in the week broke news of Rangers’ impending US takeover – say it will cost club more than £1.2m to sack Clement.
It comes after new Patrick Stewart had refuted suggestions Rangers were refusing to sack Philippe Clement because of financial reasons.
Stewart had commended Clement for finishing in the top eight of the Europa League, with the Belgian initially being given the opportunity to face Fenerbahce and Jose Mourinho.
But now the patience of the Rangers board has run out with official confirmation all that appears to be remaining.
Two Rangers legends tipped to return
Philippe Clement has no excuse as the axe finally swings after a gruelling few weeks at Rangers.
The pressure on the Rangers manager became untenable after his team lost 2-0 to St Mirren at Ibrox, the Paisley club’s first win in Glasgow’s southside since 1991.
Speaking after this result, which came in the wake of Celtic being beaten at Easter Road by Hibs just half an hour earlier, Clement looked a beaten man.
