Newly-appointed coach to take Rangers training today, he is counted on

Issame Charai has been left in limbo at Rangers less than a month from his arrival after Philippe Clement was sacked on Sunday.

The 2-0 defeat against St. Mirren at Ibrox on Saturday (22 February) was the last nail in the coffin for Clement as Rangers relieved him of his duties just over 24 hours later on 23 February.

With a Scottish Premiership trip to Kilmarnock coming up on Wednesday (26 February), the Light Blues are expected to appoint an interim manager to lead the team following Clement’s departure.

Barry Ferguson has emerged as an early favourite to take the reins at Ibrox until the end of the season, while Neil McCann and Kevin Thomson are also in the mix.

Charai to take charge at Auchenhowie after Clement sack

Meanwhile, Charai is set to be the ‘ad-interim coach’ at Rangers following Clement’s departure, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

The reliable Belgian journalist reported via his personal X account on Sunday that the Belgian-Moroccan will oversee the Gers’ training session at Auchenhowie on Monday, 24 February.

Tavolieri also added that the Premiership heavyweights still count on Charai despite arriving at the club as Clement’s assistant in January.

It is worth noting that Tavolieri was the first to report about the 42-year-old’s move to Ibrox last month, revealing that he has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Rangers hunt manager amid 49ers takeover

It was only last week that Patrick Stewart insisted that Rangers would stick by Clement, while news that 49ers Enterprises are in advanced talks over a takeover boosted fans’ spirits.

However, the decision-makers in Govan were left with no choice but to pull the plug on the 50-year-old after a humiliating 2-0 defeat against St. Mirren on home turf, with his future being decided over a board meeting on Sunday afternoon.

With takeover talks in full swing, the Ibrox outfit must decide whether to hire a permanent replacement for Clement.
