Luis Diaz to Newcastle: ‘Deal could be agreed for less than £50m’

Newcastle United are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next season, with Eddie Howe aiming to bolster his options.

The Magpies are currently pushing to secure Champions League football again, with that being the aim for the team on a regular basis moving forward.

Football Insider revealed that Newcastle are set to meet Brentford’s asking price for Bryan Mbeumo to strengthen their options on the right wing.

That is a position that Football Insider revealed is a “top priority” for Newcastle in the summer transfer window.

Industry insider Mick Brown also revealed that Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo is a transfer target for Newcastle.

The Magpies had a quiet January window in terms of incomings, but that was done purposefully to set the club up in a positive situation from a profit and sustainability perspective in the summer.

Luis Diaz could be what Newcastle United need

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed the Magpies “will be one of the sides that look at him” in the summer.

“The future of Diaz, Nunez, [and] others all comes into question obviously every week, but when you take the other three players into that equation you’re looking at a whole rebuild,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“Liverpool are not going to want a whole rebuild at the end of this season, you take a lot of quality out of that side.

“They paid circa 50 million for him, you’re not going to get that back for him at the moment.

“And if you get that back for him, you’re going to have to reinvest and rebuild the side, and we’re talking hypothetically.

“If there’s no Mo Salah there, if there’s no Trent there, if there’s no Van Dijk there, you need a nucleus of a squad.
