Rangers part ways with Philip Clement:untold truths of his tumultuous tenure;

And then there were two. Twente and Anderlecht have been disposed as potential opponents for Rangers after a dramatic night of football.

Twente had been in command until two goals in injury from Bodo/Glimt threw a spanner in the works whilst there was more of a battle in the stands than on the pitch as Fenerbahce saw off Anderlecht in emphatic fashion – making the Ibrox outfit’s Europa League pathway clearer.

Jose Mourinho might not be in one of Europe’s top five leagues anymore, but he retains a box office hit and a particular favourite of Rangers fans.

Why Jose Mourinho is a Rangers fans’ favourite

Mourinho rose to real prominence by winning the UEFA Cup and Champions League in consecutive seasons, the first of which was won by beating Celtic.

And so the love in began, as Mourinho revealed 2021:

“I could feel it immediately because the week before the Celtic fans were already in Porto trying to buy tickets from Porto fans.

“Now, what I find in the streets of London and other places, is still the Rangers fans thanking me for that final.

“The passion for football is never one that is diminished in Glasgow and achievements are often fondly remembered amongst supporters.

“I have people saying to me, oh Jose thank you very much for that final.”

The master of man management maybe hasn’t quite got things right domestically with Fenerbahce, however, few would back against Mourinho causing an upset of two in the Europa League.

When multi-million pound Rangers team flopped v Fenerbahce

The only time Rangers have faced potential Europa League opponents Fenerbahce was in 2001/02 with Dick Advocaat in charge.

A 0-0 draw at Ibrox in the first leg saw Michael Mols sent off early in the second half with the Turks progressing to the group stages with a 2-1 win in the second leg.
