DEAL CONFIRMED;Rangers board confirm Steven Gerrard as replacement and new head coach of rangers

STEVEN GERRARD is the favourite to replace Philippe Clement in the Ibrox hot-seat.

But one of his former team-mates believes he might find another club before the Belgian gets the axe – if he ever does.

Gerrard, 44, is currently without a job in the dugout after parting ways with Al-Ettifaq at the end of last month.

The ex-Rangers and Aston Villa boss spent 18 months in Saudi Arabia but left the Dammam club by mutual consent amid concerns over the team’s form.

The shock exit came just two months after he was allowed to bring in Michael Beale as his assistant.

But now the Liverpool legend is considering his next move and Glasgow would be his expected destination if Clement was shown the door.

He may need to look elsewhere for now though.

And former Liverpool star Danny Murphy has had his say on where he thins Gerrard will go next.

Murphy has tipped the out-of-work manager to replace John Eustace in the Blackburn hot-seat.

Eustace, 45, sensationally quit Rovers on Thursday to become Derby County’s new manager after the Rams sacked Paul Warne last week.

He leaves Rovers while they are fifth in the Championship table and in the play-off hunt.

And Murphy, 47, believes Gerrard would jump at the chance of becoming their new boss.

Speaking to Spin Genie, Murphy said: “I could really see Steven at Blackburn.

“I think he would jump at the opportunity if he was offered the job.

It’s a great location in terms of where he is from and they have some good young players and are really pushing in the right direction.

“He might consider what he has learned in Saudi and who is making the decisions at the club.

“I’m of the mindset that all managers are improving when they are in roles and he would’ve definitely improved at both Aston Villa and in Saudi.”
