UNBELIEVABLE NEWS;Rangers suddenly announces the change of their club name

Kieran Maguire has shared his insight on what the 49ers Enterprises takeover at Ibrox could mean for Rangers going forward.

The American enterprise group, that also owns the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers, are in talks to acquire a majority shareholding in Rangers.

The discussions are said to be at an advanced stage, with Leeds chief Paraag Marathe leading the charge and a deal could be completed by the summer.

Severe in-fighting between board members has hampered the Govan outfit in recent years, but there seems to be an acceptance that new investment is necessary to take the club forward.

49ers takeover will benefit Rangers

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, finance expert Maguire offered his verdict on the takeover news, saying: “49ers have spent modestly at Leeds but they have provided funding for the club certainly when it was in the Premier League, they are hoping to restore Leeds.

“They also want to broaden the 49ers brand, I imagine that they would see Rangers as another part of their armoury.

“Is it going to solve all of Rangers’ financial problems? Probably not but what it could do is address some of the inter-shareholder fighting that we have seen in recent years.

“Which means that you’ve not had everybody rowing in the same direction and if you’ve got a board or an ownership base which is spending as much time fighting each other as they are in terms of focusing on the long-term benefits of the club and you replace that with one organisation, such as the 49ers, I think that will work in favour of the club.”

49ers could face Scottish FA restrictions

Scottish FA regulations could limit Paraag Marathe’s influence at Ibrox if the 49ers complete their takeover of the Govan outfit.

Their regulations would restrict the enterprise group from owning over 29.9 per cent of shares in Rangers.
