Ohio State Reportedly Adds Three to Coaching Staff on Wednesday

The Ohio State Buckeyes will reportedly add three more members to their coaching staff. Former Purdue offensive line coach Marcus Johnson, former Oklahoma State coach Charlie Dickey and former Dartmouth associate head coach Wendy Laurent will join the Ryan Day’s program as analysts. In addition to his time at Purdue, Johnson also worked at Missouri, Mississippi State and Duke. Dickey has been a college coach since 1988, when he started at the University of Arizona. He had been with the Cowboys since 2019. Laurent, a former offensive lineman at Penn State, joined the Dartmouth staff in 2022.

The new trio will work with newly promoted offensive coordinator Brian Hartline, who was the Buckeyes’ wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator last season

Ohio State’s offensive line coach last season, Justin Frye, moved on to join the Arizona Cardinals coaching staff. Tyler Bowen replaced him earlier this month after spending his last three seasons at Virginia Tech.

Last year, Ohio State allowed just 16 sacks or one sack per game, tied for 10th-fewest per game. The Buckeyes also had two 1,000-yard rushers as running backs Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson combined for 2,076 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns. Both players are projected to be top NFL draft picks this year.

James Peoples and C.J. Donaldson are the predicted top backs for Ohio State next season. The defending College Football Playoff national champions will be a team in flux as the Buckeyes will be breaking in a new starter at quarterback. Julian Sayin is projected to be under center, a former five-star recruit who transferred to Columbus from Alabama.
