SHOCKING NEWS; Nottingham Forest best player have decided to leave and never return
Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood has been in fine form since making the move to the City Ground from Newcastle in January 2023.
Admittedly, the signing made by Steve Cooper raised eyebrows to start with. It was anticipated that Wood’s best days were behind him and the fan base didn’t really feel he was what the Reds needed as part of their attacking arsenal.
During the second half of the 2022/23 campaign, Wood scored just once. His goal came against champions Manchester City but a groin injury picked up in a game against Tottenham saw his season end prematurely.
The 2023/24 campaign was far more fruitful. He scored 14 goals across the season and really kicked on after the dismissal of Cooper, with Nuno Espirito Santo making him the spearhead of his Forest attack.
Alan Shearer has hailed Wood this season. The striker has scored 18 goals with 13 games of the campaign remaining this season and he’s well in the race alongside Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah to win the Golden Boot.
Chris Wood robbed of major award despite Nottingham Forest form
Last night in Auckland stars of sport in New Zealand gathered as the winners of the prestigious Halberg Awards were announced.
Tyler Bindon was awarded the emerging talent accolade weeks after his move to Forest but his soon-to-be teammate, Wood has been overlooked for Sportsman of the Year.
Hamish Kerr scooped the top prize instead after his gold medal victory in the high jump at the Olympics which took place in Paris last summer.
Wood can count himself very unlucky. He’s scored 32 Premier League goals over the last two seasons and even if the award is judged on the past 12 months, he’s still very unfortunate.
Nothing against Kerr but Wood is flying the flag with aplomb right now and not just for himself but for people in New Zealand who might be considering playing football in the future.
