Spanish coach confirms he wants to become Rangers manager
Philippe Clement is under tremendous pressure at Rangers as domestic results this season have been abysmal.
They have been knocked out of both cups, one of them coming against lowly Queen’s Park.
While fans have wanted the Belgian to be sacked, club CEO Patrick Stewart has issued a public vote of confidence for the manager.
Carlos Cuellar confirms he wants to manage Rangers one day
Despite spending just one season as a player at Ibrox, Carlos Cuellar seems to love the club and the fans certainly seem the same way.
He won the Scottish Premier League Player of the Year in that season and was lauded as “King Carlos” by the supporters.
Now, the Spaniard has completed his Uefa Pro Licence and is the manager of Real Murcia’s B team.
Coaching and potentially management is certainly how he plans to spend the next phase of his life and he’s revealed interest in managing Gers.
When asked by the Scottish Sun what he’d do if the club’s chairman rang him and offered him the job, he responded: “I wish!
“It was my dream, to be honest. You realise how big it is when you are inside it. You knew.
“You realise and you even understand how big it is from the outside to be inside before.
“To be honest, that day – I wish. Fingers crossed it happens.
“I would cry for sure because it would be one of the happiest days of my life.”
Ibrox faithful may even accept Carlos Cuellar as the new manager
Gers fans, frustrated by Clement’s dismal domestic record and embarrassing cup exits, including a loss to Queen’s Park, are desperate for change and Cuellar could be the breath of fresh air they crave.
Despite his limited managerial experience, currently leading Real Murcia’s B team, the Spaniard’s deep connection with the club which was forged during his stellar 2007/08 season would ensure a warm welcome.
