Rangers’ new manager ‘coming to a place like nowhere else in the world’

Philippe Clement is under renewed sack pressure at Rangers after defeat in the Scottish Cup and with the Gers 13 points behind rivals Celtic in the league.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (10 February) that Clement is now once again fighting for his job following the historic 1-0 loss against Queen’s Park.

Potential new appointments have already been considered at Ibrox in recent months, with four frontrunners named.

Steve Cooper, Derek McInnes, Russell Martin and Kevin Muscat are all in contention for the Rangers job should Clement be sacked.

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has handed potential candidates a “horrible” warning about taking the hot seat.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed new managers at Rangers or Celtic are “coming into a place like nowhere else in the world”.

The Ibrox club sacked Michael Beale and Giovani van Bronckhorst in the space of under a year before Clement’s arrival.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Any manager coming into Celtic or Rangers has to know they are coming into a place like nowhere else in the world.

“It is a hotbed and it is really intense.

“Any manager coming in will have done their research and they will know what they are coming in to.

“If you win, you are a superhero. Your life will be bigger than anything you can imagine.

“If you lose, you’ll be drummed out on your ear very quickly. It’s horrible.

“The attraction of these two big clubs, Celtic more than Rangers, is something which has to be considered.”
