Philippe Clement reveals talks with Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart after Scottish Cup shocker
Philippe Clement has revealed he held talks with Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart in the wake of the Scottish Cup exit to Queen’s Park
The Light Blues suffered a shock Ibrox defeat to Callum Davidson’s Championship outfit last weekend to end a realistic best chance of silverware this season after already losing the Premier Sports Cup Final to Celtic and currently trailing Brendan Rodgers’ men at the league summit by 13 points. They are still in the Europa League at the last 16 stage but the defeat in the Scottish Cup has left the Light Blues faithful raging with the Belgian feeling extreme heat from the stands and fans everywhere.
The club have remained tight-lipped this week as pundits, fans and ex-pros all delivered their views on the situation surrounding Clement at the club after that loss to the Spiders.
Things don’t get much easier with Hearts at Tynecastle this weekend. Breaking his cover for the first time since that defeat at Ibrox, Clement told the gathered media: “It’s been a long week, after a defeat like that you want a game as fast as possible to react and do the right things.
“We need to react after an unacceptable defeat. It is about picking up the team again and correcting the mistakes we made. I spoke with Patrick (Stewart) after the game as I do after every game. For sure, I know Sunday was a big blow to get that result. It is unacceptable.
“We have had some great moments together at Ibrox, this was clearly a bad moment. I understand the frustrations. I want to fight for this club. We need to get back to an improved level, we need to have the right mindset and be ready for Sunday.
“I am very motivated to do my job, all my focus is on getting a result on Hearts. I know how great this place can be if you have success, this is my hunger and my desire. My determination is to work day and night to build consistency with this squad.”
