Philippe Clement in danger and Rangers have six options to replace manager

Rangers were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by second-tier Queen’s Park on Sunday.

Rangers boss Philippe Clement is under a mountain of pressure after Sunday’s defeat to second-tier Queen’s Park.

The Gers are now out of the Scottish Cup and 13 points behind bitter rivals Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title. And Clement’s future is becoming an increasingly hot topic of discussion.

It would reportedly take a £1.2million payout to sack the Belgian just over a year on from his appointment. But there are already a host of names in the mix, should senior figures at Ibrox determine that the time is right to make a change.

The Liverpool legend is back on the market after leaving Al-Ettifaq for personal reasons at the end of January. Gerrard is the only Rangers boss in the last 14 years to lead them to a league title, having done so in 2020/21, so he is naturally the front-runner.

Russell Martin

The 39-year-old is still considered an exciting managerial prospect with an expansive style of play despite being axed by rock-bottom Southampton just before Christmas. Martin has also enjoyed spells with MK Dons and Swansea City since hanging up his boots in 2019.

Sean Dyche

His brand of football does not please everyone but Dyche is an experienced manager with a solid track record. Burnley punched well above their weight during his decade in charge at Turf Moor, and he impressively steadied the ship at Everton before making way for Davies Moyes’ return last month. It surely won’t be long before the 53-year-old is snapped up, providing he wants to dive straight back into management.

Rob Edwards

The former Welsh international took plucky Luton Town to the Premier League and had a good go at keeping them up, with the Hatters finishing 18th last season.
