Tottenham player ‘would like’ to join Premier League rivals if there is an opportunity
Tottenham Hotspur signed Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich on deadline day.
The 19-year-old will look to establish himself as an important player for the North London club over the next few weeks. He impressed with a cameo against Liverpool in the English League Cup semifinals recently, and the French attacker will look to build on it and establish himself as a key for the club.
The player was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United during the January transfer window as well, but the Red Devils were unwilling to pay the loan fee demanded by the German club. Now, Christian Falk has revealed in his daily briefing column with CaughtOffside that the player would like to join Manchester United if the opportunity presents itself in the summer. He struggled for regular gametime at the German club and a return to Bayern Munich might not be a certainty. He will look to sort out his long-term future and join a club where he will play regularly.
“Tel was certainly open to the move, but United weren’t prepared to pay the loan fee Bayern Munich were demanding at the time (€5m). So, you see, there was a huge difference to the offer Tottenham came to the table with. Whether Tel stays with Bayern beyond the summer or moves on, it’s entirely up to him. If he can make the step to United, he would like to do it. If he sees a chance at Bayern Munich, perhaps he would also stay, but I think it’s hard for him, as he didn’t make it under Vincent Kompany. “
Manchester United need attacking depth and signing a versatile winger like him would be a wise decision. It remains to be seen whether they try and sign the player permanently at the end of the season.
