Steven Gerrard agreement emerges days after Liverpool icon leaves Al-Ettifaq

An ‘agreement’ has been reached about Steven Gerrard’s next managerial move following the Liverpool legend’s departure from Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq earlier last month

Steven Gerrard could seal a sensational return to Rangers following his recent departure from Al-Ettifaq, at least according to Celtic and Ibrox legends. The 44-year-old is back in the job market, having parted ways with the Saudi Pro League team just over a week ago, drawing a line under an arduous one-and-a-half-year stint in the Gulf.

Since leaving, speculation has mounted regarding his next move, with links to clubs like Carlisle United, Derby County, and Wycombe Wanderers, as well as talk of a return to Ibrox. During his time in Glasgow, Gerrard won the Scottish Premiership title in 2021 – breaking a 10-year drought for the side.

Reacting to news of a possible reunion, Rangers icon Ally McCoist said he thought the move would be perfect for the former Liverpool skipper, considering his recent managerial setbacks. “It wouldn’t surprise me if Steven Gerrard came back to Ibrox,” McCoist told talkSPORT BET.

He’s obviously held in really high regard by the supporters because of the league title he won, and his next job is going to be vitally important for him. Things haven’t gone according to plan for him after he left Rangers.

“A little bit like Frank Lampard going to Coventry – his next appointment was really important to him as well. So we’ll see what Steven ends up choosing to do with his career.”

The idea of Gerrard returning to Ibrox isn’t just supported by those with ties to Rangers. Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon also suggested that such a possibility should not be ‘ruled out,’ reflecting McCoist’s views.

Steven Gerrard back to Rangers? You never know in football,” the Irishman told Casino Uden Rofus. “You never know where the next project or next adventure will take you. You can never rule anything like that out.
