‘He knew what he wanted’… Ianis Hagi given mentality backing after making Rangers impact

Philippe Clement had to deal with a couple of sagas in the summer with two of Rangers’ biggest earners and best players not available for selection.

The Champions League qualifiers could have been easier if Todd Cantwell was in the squad or if the manager had someone who had just made an impact in the summer’s European Championships.

In Ianis Hagi, Rangers had a player who was fit, and available, but for a contract clause that saw Clement’s hand forced.

Ianis Hagi’s mentality praised after Rangers comeback

For some players, it would have been enough to down tools, however, Hagi’s attitude and mentality has been praised for the way that he has come through the adversity – by his dad.

Gheorghe Hagi isn’t a bad role model to have and as a sounding pole for advice given some of the clubs that he played for.

What is clear, is that Hagi wanted to stay and repay the Ibrox faithful who had been calling for his return, via The Glasgow Times:

“I’m glad Ianis didn’t give in at Rangers. He knew what he wanted. And he found a lot of warmth in the Romanian national team too which helped.

“When he produced good things in that team, it’s clear that it helped him come back stronger to Rangers.

“He overcame a difficult situation there and he proved that he’s mature.

“I’ve given Ianis enough advice in his life. He’s grown up now. Everything is on his own time. He listened, he did well, he’s reached a beautiful age.

“For Romania, they know what they have to do in the dressing room, where there is a special manager in Mircea Lucescu.

“They have an extraordinary group of players and they can’t let this chance slip through their fingers.
