David Moyes twist emerges at Everton after Beto transfer move
David Moyes has relied on Beto at Everton despite transfer interest in the striker over the winter window.
The Guinea-Bissau striker has emerged as a key player for the Scottish manager after other strikers in the squad picked up injuries.
In the 4-0 win over Leicester at Goodison Park on 1 February, the 27-year-old started and showcased his importance in the squad with a brace as the Toffees opened up a nine-point gap with the relegation zone.
David Moyes blocked late Beto transfer
Moyes actually refused to let Beto leave the Blues after Real Betis made a move for him, according to ABC.
The news outlet reports (6 February) that the 61-year-old head coach blocked the centre-forward’s departure.
With the La Liga outfit looking for attacking reinforcement, the former Udinese ace was one of the players they pushed to sign in the previous window.
Beto critical for Everton survival in Premier League
Dominic Calvert-Lewin had been the first-choice number nine under Sean Dyche, and Moyes also seemed to have faith in him.
The Englishman picked up an injury in January and has been out of action for the last few weeks, leading to a dearth of attacking options at Everton.
Armado Broja has also dealt with several fitness issues at Goodison Park since his loan move from Chelsea last summer.
The Albanian is also likely to be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future, along with Youssef Chermiti, who hasn’t played a single minute in the current campaign.
Beto is currently the only fit natural centre-forward in the squad, and Moyes was sensible enough to keep a hold of him for the coming months.
While it isn’t surprising that the Guinea-Bissau striker wanted to leave the Merseyside outfit after failing to get regular minutes, the scenario has changed.
