Ianis Hagi contract talks mooted as ‘ridiculous’ Rangers offer proposed at Ibrox
Rangers should consider offering Ianis Hagi a “ridiculous” amount of money to keep him at Ibrox, according to Keith Jackson.
The Daily Record journalist is of the view that the Light Blues cannot afford to lose Hagi for free, having already seen Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morellos depart for nothing in the pas.
“I think at the very least they should be sitting him down right now and doing everything, as much as they possibly can, to put a contract in front of him.
“Otherwise – they talk about learning from previous mistakes – Hagi walks away at the end of the season just the same way that Ryan Kent did, Morellos did for free and Rangers have lost another asset.
“If they are not trying to sit him down… even, by the way, if they are saying to him, ‘we’re going to pay a ridiculous amount of money, but we’re going to sell you’… just do something.
“Just put something in front of him. Otherwise, you’re going to lose another asset – one of the few they’ve got left.”
Hagi has had a peculiar season at Rangers since returning from his season-long loan at Alaves in the summer.
The 26-year-old was initially forced to train away from Philippe Clement’s squad due to a contract dispute, but has since earned his way back into the fold.
Since returning to first-team action, the attacker has bagged three goals and five assists in 15 Scottish Premiership appearances, thus becoming essentially undroppable.
Rangers cannot ignore Hagi’s increasing importance to the team under Clement, particularly when he is in the final five months of his contract.
As Jackson said, it is high time the Ibrox outfit sat down for negotiations over a new deal with him.
Rangers should be well underway in their search for a new left-back, with Ridvan Yilmaz the subject of persistent interest from Besiktas.
