Tottenham are reportedly continuing to persuade Axel Disasi to complete a deadline day move despite the Chelsea defender turning them down. Spurs are said to have agreed a deal with their London rivals to sign the Frenchman.

An injury crisis has prompted Spurs into launching moves for several centre-backs. Micky van de Ven has only just returned from a hamstring injury, while Cristian Romero has missed large parts of the season with fitness issues.

Ange Postecoglou has lost third-choice centre-back Radu Dragusin to a potentially serious knee injury. Kevin Danso has arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to ease the issue, but Spurs are said to want at least one more defender.

Chelsea star Disasi is said to be a target after a move to Aston Villa fell through. According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs chiefs struck an agreement with their Stamford Bridge counterparts to sign the 26-year-old.

However, it is claimed that Disasi ‘continues to say no’ to a move. It remains to be seen whether his stance softens as the day progresses. The player has made only six Premier League appearances for Chelsea this season.

Last week, Postecoglou said that players turning down a move to Spurs indicated that they would not be the right type of signing. It came after Mathys Tel rejected a £50million transfer from Bayern Munich after the two clubs agreed a deal.

“It depends what the players are looking for,” the Australian said.

“You can look at it two ways. Okay, the league form is not great but there’s some pretty big possibilities to have success here in the last three or four months.

“It’s still a big club, it’s still a club that can challenge for honours and it’s whether the player sees the potential that we see right now, or certainly that I see. If it’s too much of a hard sell it’s probably not the right one for us.”
