Wilson Isidor completes permanent move from Zenit to Sunderland

WILSON ISIDOR is looking forward to a successful future with Sunderland after committing his long-term future to the Stadium of Light.

Isidor initially joined Sunderland on a season-long loan when he moved from Zenit St Petersburg in the summer.

However, after a string of impressive displays in red-and-white in the first half of the campaign, Sunderland officials have acted decisively to secure a permanent deal for the striker.

There had been suggestions that Torino were interested in trying to broker a deal with Zenit, but the Black Cats have removed any uncertainty over Isidor’s long-term future by triggering a clause in the initial loan deal with Zenit.

The two clubs have agreed a permanent transfer, with Isidor having signed a three-and-a-half year deal that commits him to the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2028.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment since my first steps at the club, so I’m very happy,” said Isidor. “Right from the start, many moments made me believe that Sunderland is home for me and my family.

At my presentation against Burnley, I knew the fans would always support me and this has been true in my best moments and the toughest. I love playing for Sunderland, and this is just the start.”

Isidor has scored nine goals since joining Sunderland in the summer and quickly become an integral part of Regis Le Bris’ preferred Black Cats line-up.

“Wilson’s made a really positive start to his time at Sunderland and we are delighted that he will remain with us permanently,” said Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman. “Everyone can see that he thoroughly enjoys being part of our club and he has performed at a very high standard.

“In finalising this transfer, it’s also pleasing to note how motivated Wilson was to commit his future to Sunderland.
