Newcastle United new signing imminent as seven-goal midfielder agrees long-term contract

Newcastle United haven’t brought in any first-team signings this month – but they’ve been busy adding to their academy.

Having recently secured deals for Georgian forward Vaktang Salia and Republic of Ireland youth international Kyle Fitzgerald, the Magpies have now agreed to sign teenager Baran Yildiz from Turkish second-tier club Genclerbirligi

Reports in Turkey on Friday morning claimed Yildiz is joining the Magpies, and NewcastleWorld understands that to be true, though it is not yet clear when his transfer will be announced.

As per Sports Digitale journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu, the 18-year-old will sign a four-and-a-half-year contract but may have to wait until the end of the season before making the move official.

Yildiz, who joined Genclerbirligi in 2017, has scored seven goals in 15 matches for the under-17s and under-19s teams from attacking midfield this campaign.

Newcastle announced late last year they have agreed a deal to sign exciting young Georgian forward Vakhtang Salia from Dinamo Tbilisi when he turns 18 years old in August.

Salia visited Tyneside earlier this month and was given a tour of the club’s training grounf where he spoke to head coach Eddie Howe, sporting director Paul Mitchell, loan manager Shola Ameobi, as well as some of his future teammates.

“I managed to have a good conversation with him, his family and representatives,” Howe told NewcastleWorld. “He seemed like a really good lad with a great attitude and hungry to learn. His next step is slightly unclear but he is certainly a talented young player.”

And what Mitchell said about Salia certainly relates to Yildiz’s imminent arrival.

“We’re delighted to get ahead of a number of other top clubs to sign Vakhtang,” Mitchell said in October. “Scouting and recruiting emerging talent is an essential part of building a sustainable future, particularly within the current PSR framework, so the market is fiercely competitive.
