Hamza Igamane picks up top award as Rangers nerves jangle after £50m deal collapses
Rangers striker Hamza Igamane has been voted the Scottish Premiership’s Player of the Month for January.
But there might be a few nerves at Ibrox as one of the Rangers striker’s most high-profile reported suitors see a deal to sign a £50m alternative collapse.
Igamane has five goals in six appearances for Rangers this month and the Ibrox support will just be hoping the 22-year-old is still around to defend the gong in February.
Hamza Igamane named Player of the Month
Hamza Igamane started all six of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership games in January and has emerged as the Ibrox club’s number one striker.
The former FAR Rabat star played his role in the 3-0 demolition of Celtic at Ibrox, netted a stunning hat-trick at Easter Road and added goals against both St Johnstone and Aberdeen.
Speaking about the award, Hamza Igamane dedicated the gong to his teammates and insists everyone at Rangers is just focused on improving.
“I’m enjoying being part of this squad and playing for Rangers. I hope I can continue to improve and keep contributing and we are all working hard as a team for that.
“My teammates and the coaching staff have supported me a lot since I joined the club, they have helped me settle quickly which has made it easier for me on the pitch, so I thank them for that.”
Hamza Igamane suitors see £50m deal collapse
It’s not just the SPFL who have noticed Hamza Igamane’s form this month either with the Rangers striker grabbing the attention of several Premier League clubs.
Reports have suggested that the likes of Everton and Spurs are tailing Igamane as they look to reinforce their frontlines this January.
Rangers fans did think Spurs would drop out of the Igamane race amid £50m interest in Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel.
But Spurs remain on the hunt for a new hitman amid reports from Fabrizio Romano that the French striker has turned down Tottenham’s proposal.
