Cameron Archer makes one clear demand to Leeds United if they want to sign him this month
Leeds United are certainly leaving it late to do their January transfer business: only now are we seeing players heavily linked with moves to Elland Road.
The big story coming out of Elland Road right now is that Newcastle United defender Matt Target looks to join leeds united, finally binging an end to Leeds United’s wait for a first signing of the New Year.
Daniel Farke’s side have been very quiet so far. At times it’s been eerily quiet on the Leeds transfer front, although plenty of players have been somewhat loosely linked with moves to West Yorkshire.
Targett looks like a strong link though. It’s understood that Targett is poised to join Leeds United on a permanent deal ahead of his Newcastle contract expiring in the summer.
But Leeds journalist Adam Pope says that the 23-year-old Archer is open to moving to Leeds United on loan before the February 3rd transfer deadline. Pope adds that ‘early talks have taken place’ but that no agreement has been reached yet.
The ball is very much in Southampton’s court and right now it looks like the Saints aren’t willing to let Archer leave on loan.
Whilst Archer is open to joining Leeds, he wants a guaranteed starting spot in Farke’s XI, and that might be very hard to come by with the likes of Manor Solomon and Dan James in fine form right now.
BBC report that ‘Archer seeks a guaranteed starting role after ‘increasingly finding himself on the bench’ under new Southampton boss Ivan Juric, in news that might push Archer towards other clubs where wingers are needed.
Although able to play as a no.10 and even as a no.9, a guaranteed starting spot might not be something Leeds can offer.
