West Ham to make deadline-busting Ferguson bid as Brighton decide

West Ham are likely to make a “late” loan move for Evan Ferguson but their chances of a deal may hinge on what other offers Brighton receive, according to Sean Whetstone.

Whetstone, reporting via the West Ham Football X account [28 January], claims that any deal for Ferguson may arrive late following rumours of a move to the London Stadium.

Brighton are understood to have opened the door for an exit [Dharmesh Sheth] but a loan deal may depend on how it competes with that of other Premier League clubs.

Ferguson sustained an injury prior to Christmas but a return to fitness is imminent.

West Ham can afford to hedge their bets on Evan Ferguson

While Ferguson is a signing that makes sense, and certainly one that would improve the Hammers’ chances of progression, they must have appropriate fall-back options in place in case a twist emerges.

With several other clubs said to be courting the Irishman, there are no guarantees over a move to the London Stadium and if the Irons were to put all the eggs in one Ferguson-shaped basket, it could end badly.

Of course, given the relationship with Graham Potter, West Ham may hold somewhat of an upper hand in the race and their ability to guarantee regular game time will also be another consideration made by the Seagulls.

Whatever happens in the coming days, the need for a striker arrival is growing in importance and the club will no doubt be aware of that.

The final few days of the window promises to be interesting with West Ham likely to be active.

In other West Ham news, Jeff Stelling was in disbelief after what he was told regarding the Irons.
