BREAKING NEWS;Rangers has finally accepted Tavernier and Dessers offers ?

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Rangers are unlikely to cash in on senior duo James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers in this window.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Ibrox club have “missed the opportunity” to get maximum value for Tavernier, while Dessers is now “flavour of the month” for the Gers again.

Both players have been singled out for criticism by the Rangers fanbase with Philippe Clement’s side trailing Celtic by 13 points in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Dessers has been linked with a potential return to Italy with Cagliari, while Tavernier has long been targeted by Turkish and Saudi Pro League sides as he enters his twilight years.

The duo impressed for a youthful Rangers side as they went down 2-1 in stoppage time against Man United on Thursday (23 January).

Tavernier and Dessers set to stay at Rangers until the summer, says Wyness

Wyness admitted the Gers need a “younger nucleus” but insisted both players will remain at Ibrox until the summer window.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They’re in Europe with big games ahead.

“They’ve missed the opportunity to cash in on Tavernier, certainly.

“With Dessers, he’s become flavour of the month again after missing some big chances in recent weeks.

“It’s probably best to cash in at some stage, but that probably won’t be until the summer now.

“It all depends on the level of the talent they can bring through and how they can rebuild.

“There’s no doubt there are some big question marks over the recruitment and the youth academy.
