Nikola Katic ‘thinking’ about deal as Rangers transfer swirl explodes and Matondo loan addressed amid 3 escalating exits

Wantaway Nikola Katic is still considering his future at FC Zurich with reports in Switzerland ramping up talk over a return to Rangers.

Philippe Clement has snapped up defender Rafael Fernandes on loan from Lille so far this month – but the Light Blues are still facing injury woes at the back with the January window rapidly coming to a close. Leon Balogun limped off in the Europa League defeat to Manchester United with Robin Propper the only fit senior centre-back on the books with John Souttar, Dujon Sterling, Neraysho Kasanwirjo all sitting on the sidelines.

Clinton Nsiala has partnered the Dutchman in recent weeks while Leon King is back involved in the first team.. Record Sport previously revealed Bosnian Katic is ready to leave FC Zurich and was keen on a return to Glasgow.

Reports in Switzerland suggest that Katic is now training away from the first-team squad before Sunday’s clash with FC Luzern as the centre-back ponders his next move. Tagesan-Zeiger report that a return to Ibrox is on the table with his current club leaving the door open for a move.

Asked about the future of the 28-year-old, sporting director Milos Malenovic said: “We have several players who are still thinking about a transfer. These guys are not all gone yet. What is next depends on who else leaves us. But even if we stay as a whole, we want to strengthen ourselves.
