George Edmundson was just a boy when he moved to Rangers from Oldham Athletic in 2019.

But now the centre-back affectionately known as ‘the fridge’ is all grown up and making a big impression on English football.

George Edmundson faced stiff competition to break into the Rangers team with Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Nikola Katic all ahead of him in the Ibrox pecking order.

But now the defender has been recalled to the Premier League and finds himself at the centre of transfer chatter south of the border

George Edmundson was part of the Ipswich Town team who earned a spirited promotion to the English Premier League last season.

Playing 10 Championship games for the club, Edmundson was farmed out on loan to Middlesbrough this season and has impressed under the management of Michael Carrick.

But just hours before Boro were set to host West Brom in the Championship, Ipswich controversially activated a clause to return the 27-year-old to the Tractor Boys this January.

Speaking about the situation, Michael Carrick has explained that Edmundson knew this day might come and that a more permanent deal is still a possibility.

We knew it was a possibility,” Carrick said, as quoted by Teeside Live. “We didn’t know when it might come.

“The ball was in their court in terms of that situation. What happens next, we’ll have to wait and see.

“It’s not long happened so we’ll explore what happens next. It’s something we’ll look at for sure.

“George has done well but it needs to be right for all parties so we’ll see how that goes.”
