I will not play again:Ranger key player has decided to quit due to…
Cyriel Dessers is in a transfer battle between Cagliari and Empoli as the Italian sides duel to sign him from Rangers, according to Corriere Dello Sport.
The newspaper reported in its print edition (13 January, page 23) that the striker is a favourite for Cagliari who are prioritising a new striker during the winter transfer window.
However, the club are in a battle with fellow Serie A side Empoli who are also interested in the 30-year-old as he looks set to leave Ibrox at the halfway point in the season.
Cyriel Dessers looks set for Rangers exit
With the emergence of Hamza Igamane at Ibrox this term, Dessers is surely only going to drop down the pecking order at Rangers from this point and therefore, an exit during the transfer window would probably be a positive outcome for both parties.
The striker does have the ability to score goals and has contributed six in 19 Scottish Premiership matches this season but, in what has been a poor season for the Gers, Dessers has failed to offer too much in his performances consistently.
Therefore, with two sides seemingly after his services, it could be the fresh start required for the player to keep his career going for a few more years which is exactly what he’ll want.
Furthermore, with the Light Blues struggling financially, if they can cash in on the striker during this transfer window, it would certainly put them in a healthier position as they look at transfers going forward.
The journalist claims that the Light Blues face competition from the likes of QPR and Stoke, as well as Italian clubs Sampdoria and Empoli who are also in contact with the Clarets over a deal.
Philippe Clement’s side is in desperate need of reinforcements as the Belgian seeks to limit the gap to arch-rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
