I will not play again:Evan Ferguson has decided to quit due to…
Evan Ferguson will be sidelined for several weeks at Brighton with an injury and it should force West Ham United into reconsidering their stance on a potential swoop for the Irishman.
West Ham are in dire need of attacking reinforcements and the recent injury sustained by Niclas Fullkrug has further amplified those needs.
The Hammers had been linked with a move for Ferguson [Alex Crook], but their stance needs to change after the injury update provided by Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler.
Via the Irish Mirror [10 January], the Seagulls boss said: “Evan is doing okay, not perfectly, but he is doing okay. I think it will take some more weeks until he returns.”
That injury concern is the very reason West Ham need to move on from their interest and look elsewhere this January.
West Ham need to move on from Evan Ferguson interest
While the signing of a striker is an absolute necessity for the Irons, it has to be the right deal and a loan arrival of a seemingly injury-prone youngster just wouldn’t be an adequate bit of business.
Elye Wahi is another forward to have been linked with a move to the London Stadium [L’Equipe] and a deal like that would make far more sense not only short term, but also long term.
West Ham need a striker capable of having an immediate impact, while also possessing the necessary potential to grow even further as a player.
Although Ferguson would have the ability to fulfil those short-term ambitions, his injury record is worrying, and given it would be a loan deal, it seems a high-risk signing for little reward.
Whatever happens on that front, the Hammers need to ramp up their efforts to recruit a new frontman in a bid to revive their season.
