Crisis talks held as update emerges on Clement resigning as Rangers manager
Rangers directors have held behind-the-scenes crisis talks over Philippe Clement’s future, according to The Scottish Sun.
The news outlet reported on 10 January that the Belgian is clinging on to his job which is understood to be in danger.
Some anticipated that Clement would resign and admit his time was up, but that is not on the cards, as things stand.
Philippe Clement has no incentive to resign as Rangers manager
Clement has no incentive to walk as he will be forgoing a nice paycheck.
The Ibrox outfit handed him a long-term deal in the summer and the Belgian would’ve ensured that he has a significant compensation amount added in case he gets sacked.
He will be aware that the club are in dire financial straits and won’t sack him until things get really bad, which according to some, they already are.
Patrick Stewart has backed him publically in the meeting with the press on 11 January but it’s understood that his job is far from safe.
Of course, the club CEO is not going to come out and say that they’re thinking of sacking him, but the Belgian knows he’s a few more bad results away from the sack.
Fans are unlikely to get on board unless some game-changing signings are made in January or if there is a change of manager.
While there has been interest in the 30-year-old, the club are still to receive a transfer offer for him.
The report reads: “One player who they are trying to sell is striker Cyriel Dessers.
“The 30-year-old has not gone down well with Rangers fans and despite scoring 34 goals for the club since his arrival in the summer of 2023, his performances have been far below expectations. The club were keen to sell him last summer and hired intermediaries to find an offer.
