Rangers transfer news: Huge Leon Belcar twist revealed

Rangers target Leon Belcar admits that he’s been left flattered with links to big European clubs.

While Gers are keen on securing the 23-year-old’s services in the January transfer window [Scottish Sun, 2 January], he has revealed that he’s happy to stay at Varazdin for the time being.

It was understood that if a deal was there to be done, the Croatian would cost a fee in the region of £650k.

He told the club’s official website, as quoted by Rangers News: “Although the media reports about the interest of big European clubs are good, I’m in no hurry.

“I’m satisfied and happy in Varazdin. This is where I’m at home, this is where my heart is and we’re moving on to new victories.

“It’s definitely a nice feeling to be in your city, your club and among your people. I got my chance and I used it in the best way, so I’m glad that the fans see that and that they love and appreciate me.”

Rangers can now move on from Leon Belcar

The 23-year-old said all of that after he decided to sign a contract extension at the Croatian club.

His deal now runs out until the summer of 2027 and thus any move to sign him is going to be more expensive now for the Ibrox outfit.

It’s prudent for Gers to move on to alternative targets but they must not lose focus on what the priorities are in January.

A new defender has to be brought in given the ever-growing injury crisis at the club.

Along with that, a new attacker would also be welcomed with open arms as Cyriel Dessers seems to be on his way out after underperforming for months.

Hopefully, Nils Koppen is progressing with some of these deals and it’s imperative that the club do not waste too much time in making these transfers.
