Feyenoord star Santiago Giménez rejected Nottingham Forest offer

Feyenoord star Santiago Giménez rejected Nottingham Forest last summer and has discussed this topic on several occasions this season.

The Mexico international frequently talks to the Dutch media and that in his home country, and Nottingham Forest have been a regular topic of discussion.

Today’s edition of Spanish newspaper Marca has published an interview with the 23-year-old, where he discusses several subjects… including Nottingham Forest.

In October, the striker stated he turned down the Reds due to the lack of Champions League football.

On New Year’s Eve, Feyenoord director of football Dennis te Kloese stated Nuno Espírito Santo’s side weren’t convincing with their pitch to Giménez, and therefore, he snubbed them.

On Wednesday, the frontman hinted Liverpool manager Arne Slot may have had a role in his decision to reject Nottingham Forest. Giménez said he consulted with his former coach after the English club made an offer.

Speaking to Marca, the Mexican has provided another reason for not accepting a move to Nottingham Forest last summer.

“We put many things on the table: the style of football; the lifestyle; whether it was appropriate to leave at that time; the other clubs that also wanted me… And in the end the decision was to stay, and I don’t regret it. I’ve had great growth here and time will tell what happens,” he said.

Giménez has scored 10 goals and registered three assists from 14 games for Feyenoord this season.

Alan Shearer has hailed Elliot Anderson and his £35 million move from Newcastle really set the tone for what Forest wanted to do during the window.

Elsewhere, it’s been a big season for some other players. Morgan Gibbs-White was praised by Jamie Carragher after the latest win over Wolves and he’s been brilliant in recent weeks.

Perhaps the current run of form, however, has been built on solid foundations.
