BREAKING NEWS;Newcastle confirm the appointing of Jacobo Solis as new board of directors
It may not be the January signing many were hoping for to kick-off the new year, but Newcastle United have today confirmed a new arrival.
While Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi may have departed in 2024, changes continue behind the scenes as a man well known within PIF circles has arrived to bolster our board of directors behind the scenes.
Solis appointed at Newcastle
Newcastle United have announced the appointment of Jacobo Solis to club’s board of directors today.
Solis is the Head of Europe Direct Investments in the International Investments Division at PIF and, according to the i’s Mark Douglas has ‘been a big part of decision-making for a while’, with a club statement revealing his involvement since the takeover went through in October 2021.
This takes our board of directors up to six: Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Abdulmajid Ahmed Alhagbani, Asmaa Mohammed Rezeeq, Jamie Reuben, Roger Thornton and Jacobo Solis.
His official arrival comes as Newcastle face a number of important strategic in 2025, with a decision set to be made on the potential re-development of St James’ Park; if not the building of an entirely new stadium.

‘Newcastle United today announced the appointment of Jacobo Solis to the club’s Board of Directors.
‘Solis is Head of Europe Direct Investments in the International Investments Division at PIF. He has been directly involved with Newcastle United since the acquisition of the club by an investment group led by PIF in October 2021 and is closely aligned with the club’s strategy and plans for the future.
‘Prior to joining PIF, Solis worked as an investment banker in the United States, and prior to that, as a lawyer in his native Spain. He also sits on the boards of LIV Golf, E1 Series, the all-electric powerboating championship, and POSCO E&C, the South Korean engineering company, all of which have received investment from PIF.
