Rangers are edging closer to the January transfer window and with that the transfer links are already beginning to ramp up.
The sounds coming out of Ibrox point to yet more transfer business in the winter window as Philippe Clement continues to haul the Gers through a long-overdue rebuild.
And whilst we’re still six weeks out from the January transfer window finally opening, Rangers are already being linked to a host of names in potentially crucial positions.
Rangers linked to Peterborough attacker
The most high-profile Rangers link of the transfer window to date involves Peterborough United winger Kwame Poku.
The 23-year-old attacker has been on impressive form in English League One this season and Rangers News exclusively revealed that the Ibrox side have been keeping tabs.
With Rangers having watched Poku bang in a hat-trick in the 6-1 demolition of Cambridge United before the international break, the Ibrox side are not the only ones tailing the winger.
Premier League clubs have also been linked to Poku with Peterborough increasingly consigned to losing the winger at the end of his contract.
Rangers are free to discuss terms in January and could take advantage of cross-border compensation rules to strike a cost-effective move for the attacker.
Don’t tell Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony right enough; the Irishman is hoping to recoup north of £6m for Poku come the end of the season.
Potential James Tavernier replacement
Rangers have also been linked with a move for Wrexham right-back turned right-winger Ryan Barnett amid much speculation surrounding the future of James Tavernier.
In another Rangers News exclusive, we’ve learned the Ibrox side are keeping tabs on offensive wing-back Barnett, who netted a worldie in the weekend’s win over Mansfield Town.
Rangers could look to Ryan Barnett to replace the influential Tavernier, who has certainly regressed in a number of ways this season.
The 33-year-old skipper is in his 10th season at the Ibrox club and Rangers could move the right-back on in January or come the end of the season.
Rangers currently have Dujon Sterling as a back up in the position and the Ibrox utility man is expected to make the berth his own once he regains full fitness.
Ryan Barnett, who is 25, could also be an alternative to Neraysho Kasanwirjo should the versatile loanee return to Feyenoord come the end of the season.
A deal for Barnett would be slightly more complex given the wing-back has the option of another year included in his Wrexham deal.
Scottish Premiership wonderkid
The final name being linked to Rangers ahead of the January transfer window is that of Motherwell wonderkid Lennon Miller.
The 18-year-old is the talk of the Scottish Premiership steamie and has been subject to much speculation as we enter November’s international break.
Rangers watched Lennon Miller earlier in the season and the teenager certainly ticks all the boxes in terms of of Nils Koppen’s domestic transfer pledge.
But Rangers better be ready to cough up for the midfielder amid much chatter surrounding Miller’s current market valuation.
Ex-Rangers goalkeeper Cammy Bell rates Lennon Miller at £8m and suggested Celtic would be in a better position to fund such a move.
A report coming out of the Daily Mail has suggested that Miller would be available for half of that fee, with Rangers ‘expected’ to make an approach in January.
The problem is the Gers aren’t the only ones; Old Firm rivals Celtic and current Premier League leaders Liverpool are also tracking Lennon Miller.
