The Tavern Bar on Tollcross Road is up for sale for either £50k under a leasehold agreement or £250k as freehold. The newly refurbished boozer has space for 90 covers as well as kitchen facilities and a lounge which can seat 50 people.
Located close to Celtic Park, the business attracts passing trade on matchdays from supporters as well as locals. The advert reads: “Fully refurbished in 2024. It is a traditional public bar & lounge and features attractive frontage/exterior and modern decor throughout.
“Upon entry there is a sizeable sports bar with TVs for live sport, and separate lounge bar with a recently introduced food offering. The business benefits from high footfall, lounge function hire, growing food offering and busy matchdays (when Celtic play at home and even away).”
The Tavern was previously run by the Gallagher family, who announced they were stepping away from the business, in May last year after 23 years. Writing on Facebook, they said: “Well this one may be the hardest post we’ve ever had to write but we do it from the bottom of our hearts. Today marks the final day of The Gallaghers running the best wee pub in Parkhead and where do you start when it comes to summing up 23 absolutely amazing years.
“Firstly on behalf of Mr and Mrs G and their fantastic team of staff thank you all so so much for your support over the last 2 decades. We’ve had so many highs in the wee Tavern and even managed to manouver through the strangest time for everyone during the covid storm. The punters in this pub are honestly second to none and of all the things we’ll miss, they are the biggest part. Every member of staff has made many friends over the years and you mean so much to us all.
“Secondly from the staff (and myself) we want to say the biggest thank you to Mr & Mrs G. It is very difficult to sum up just how amazing these 2 bosses are but they are by far the best bosses to grace this earth and we are all so grateful for all they have done for us over the years. I know I speak for all the staff when we say it has been an absolute pleasure to work for you and your generosity has not gone unnoticed. They have created what can only be described as a very unique little family and we have all been very lucky to be part of this journey with you both.
“Lastly, based on the many amazing comments we have had over the last few weeks a massive thank you from the punters to the staff and management. Like one of our very lovely customers said, without the Gallagher family and the staff in the wee tavern, this pub would not be so welcoming and friendly and many punters would not have felt at home for all these years. The whole team are a credit to this pub and have helped make it the place it has been for all these years.
“We are eternally grateful for everything this 2nd home has brought us and the many many memories we take with us. Today is going to be bitter sweet for us all but we are looking forward to seeing what the future brings for this local and hope it continues to be the best wee pub in Parkhead!”
