Rangers boss Philippe Clement is under increasing pressure following the Ibrox side’s Scottish Premiership defeat to Kilmarnock.
The Belgian manager, 50, has been in the Ibrox dugout for just over a year but after a summer of upheaval the club’s lacklustre and tepid performances are irking supporters.
With the wider Rangers support starting to turn on Clement, the manager was caught firefighting in the media come the full-time whistle.
And a frustrated Philippe Clement singled out two players at the end of the game as he conducted a post-match interview with Sky Sports.
Philippe Clement singles out two Rangers players
“(The result) is a big disappointment, of course,” said Clement. “After the first half, where it was in balance, the game.
“Second half, where we make much more of the domination, get a few good chances.
“The ball off the crossbar, you feel you push them back and then we get a goal against that we can never concede because you know that’s the kind of game they want to play.
“With these situations already before in the game, with these blind balls behind the defence, so we need to deal with that better.
“It’s about details. It’s about your right full-back (Neraysho Kasanwirjo) at that moment, too late reacting to push forward with your defensive line and because of that, the player was not in offside.
“So, yeah, those are details, but important details. And then we can react also better. Jack Butland is a little bit in no-man’s land in that moment.
“So, yeah, small details with new players also and that we pay cash today. So we need to learn out of that, but we need to play better than we did today. That’s also clear.”
Rangers manager risking Ibrox feud
The comments of Philippe Clement might not go down too well in the Rangers dressing room.
During the international break, Neraysho Kasanwirjo was hailing Philippe Clement as the Feyenoord loanee discussed his future.
But the Rangers manager clearly holds the versatile Dutch defender culpable for failing to step up and play Marley Watkins offside before he outmuscled John Souttar to score.
Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland has also publicly criticised by Philippe Clement for his role in the Kilmarnock goal.
The stuttering stopper has had a mixed season and didn’t cover himself in glory after being caught in what the Belgian describes as ‘no-man’s land’.
It’s also not the first time the two have had something of a public spat this season, with Butland criticising Clement’s tactics in the 4-1 humbling to Lyon at Ibrox in the Europa League.
“They are a really good team with serious individual quality,” Butland said after the Lyon match. “The disappointment is we have given them too many opportunities to showcase that.
“We needed a different approach. There wasn’t enough from us at the moments we needed to foul and stop them getting into their stride.
“We gave them easy opportunities to showcase their serious individual talent.
“It feels like one that looks worse than it is. We allowed it to be a little too end-to-end.
“At home we want to put the pressure on. We put them under some pressure early on. They couldn’t play out from the back, we managed to get them stressed.
“But we couldn’t keep it up and we gave away opportunities. It starts to get away from you.”
