Celtic has been fined €20,000 by UEFA for a pyro display carried out by their fans during their Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund. The incident occurred in the 7-1 defeat, where a section of Celtic supporters ignited pyrotechnics in the stands. Alongside the fine, UEFA has imposed a suspended ban on the club, which means they could be prohibited from selling away tickets for one future European fixture if such behavior is repeated.
This penalty follows UEFA’s strict regulations surrounding fan conduct, particularly regarding the use of pyrotechnics. Celtic had already been cautioned for similar incidents in previous European matches. With the governing body now clamping down further, the club must address fan behavior to avoid more severe punishments.
Celtic, while addressing this fine, will now have to ensure their supporters abide by UEFA rules in future matches, as failure to do so could lead to significant restrictions and increased fines, affecting the team’s away support in future European competitions. The club’s challenge is to maintain strong fan presence while adhering to these standards, especially as they progress through continental tournaments.
