Thomas Frank could have one of his star forwards back for fixtures against Manchester United, Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday this month.
Brentford forward Yoane Wissa could return to action this weekend in a huge boost for Thomas Frank as his side prepare to make the trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.
The 28-year-old has missed Brentford’s last three Premier League games due to an ankle injury. He was also absent from DR Congo international duty over the break as the nation faced Tanzania twice in Africa Cup of Nations qualification.
Frank said: “Everyone who was available for the last game is available for this one as well. Touch wood, everyone is fit and healthy. Wissa is training on the grass with the team which is positive. I need to find out if he is ready for Saturday or if it is too soon.”
The return of Wissa would be welcome news for the West London outfit. The forward had bagged three goals and an assist in the opening four top flight fixtures this term, enjoying a purple patch of form to begin the campaign before injury.
Yoane Wissa hailed as ‘quality’ forward
Praising Wissa and teammate Bryan Mbeumo last month, pundit Danny Murphy told Match of the Day 2: “If you took away the colour of the strip, at times you could mistake them for City or Arsenal. This is not easy to do. To play out from the back with the quality they have and then get end product – it is with penetration and positivity. They’re brave to get out and when they get out they have width and pace with Wissa and Mbeumo. Two players playing with confidence with a real threat.
“This is a really positive Brentford side. I was really impressed, they had variation. Sometimes Thomas Frank doesn’t get the plaudits he deserves because his team is not a one trick pony. I don’t think they will have any problems this season.”
The return of Wissa comes ahead of a busy couple of weeks for Brentford. After the trip to Manchester United is a home fixture against Ipswich Town.
There’s also then a Carabao Cup match against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, October 29. While focus remains on the league, that fixture will certainly be on Frank’s mind with a place in the quarter finals in touching distance.
Brentford team news
Brentford also have midfielders Christian Nørgaard and Mikkel Damsgaard are fit to face United but the fixture will come too soon for Mathias Jensen and Igor Thiago.
Frank said: “Both of them had minor issues. We could’ve pushed them through the international games but then problems might’ve come down the line.
“Mathi [Jensen] is training very well and training with the team. It’s just too soon to risk him but it’s looking very positive for Ipswich. Igor is a big character in a positive way. It’s still a bit early for him to be involved.”
