Rangers will be braced and ready to re-enter the transfer market when duty calls come January.
It’ll mark one year since Nils Koppen got his feet under the desk at Ibrox with the director of recruitment speaking this week about the club’s transfer ambitions.
And already there are names doing the rounds as Rangers are linked to an exciting young South American talent alongside a host of Premier League clubs.Rangers linked to South American wonderkid
Rangers fans who don’t follow Danish football won’t know too much about Chileno attacker Dario Osorio.
But the 20-year-old right-winger is making some serious waves in Scandinavia with Superliga side FC Midtjylland.
Danish football has proven a productive place for South American players to develop in recent seasons, with the likes of Rangers-linked Evander going on to big things in the MLS.
It’s also a market that Rangers have looked at before, with the signing of Mohamed Diomande from FC Nordsjaelland a stand-out addition as the Gers revamp their player trading transfer model.
So it’s no surprise to see Rangers strongly linked with another raid on the division as TBR Football mention the Gers as Dario Osorio ‘admirers’.
Newcastle United are the side most strongly mentioned, but there is also said to be interest from Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Wolves and even Old Firm rivals Celtic.
With clubs in France and Spain also reportedly in the hunt, who is Dario Osorio and what could the winger bring to Rangers?
Who is Dario Osorio and why have Rangers been linked?
Dario Osorio is a 20-year-old Chilean international winger who has exploded onto the scene at FC Midtjylland.
Starting his career in his native homeland Chile, the attacker eventually came through at Universidad de Chile where he made 51 appearances and scored 11 goals as a teenager.
That form was enough to pique the interest of Midtjylland, with reports claiming the Danes paid €5.2m (£4.3m) to sign Osorio on a five-year deal last summer.
Since then the young Chileno attacker has gone from strength-to-strength.
Scoring nine goals for Midtjylland last season, Osorio is impressing some of European football’s leading clubs, many of whom watched the winger score against Hoffenheim in the Europa League this season.
As reported by En Cancha in the player’s homeland, Midtjylland hosted scouts from the likes of Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Real Sociedad.
There have even been links to the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool, with reports of a €10m (£8.4m) bid from Anfield already being rejected this year.
It’s little wonder the kid has 13 caps and a goal already with the Chile national team, even starting two of the nation’s three group games in a disappointing Copa America campaign this summer.
As for playing style, the winger has been compared to another South American superstar in Argentina legend Angel di Maria.
It all points to talk of Rangers interest being a tad ambitious with some of European football’s leading clubs on the tail of Dario Osorio.
FC Midtjylland are also said to be demanding a club record fee for the talented Chilean.
This would see Osorio move for more than the £9m Crystal Palace paid for Alexander Sorloth in 2018 and the €12m (£10m) Lazio paid for Gustav Isaksen in 2023.
