Players have a long history of emerging from Leicester City’s esteemed academy.
While Harvey Barnes and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are more recent examples, Gary Lineker is a well-known example.
Chris Popov was given his debut by Leicester earlier in the season following his standout under-21 campaigns, but another striker is currently rising through the ranks and causing quite a stir.
He is so highly regarded that one day he could actually replace Jamie Vardy.
A lot of excitement is being generated among fans for Josh King, who is rising through Leicester’s youth ranks.
King, who turned 17 in March, moved up to the under-21 squad this year following a productive stint with the 18s.
In just three outings, the Centre-forward has already netted twice despite playing an age group above and Leicestershire Live journalist Josh Holland has labelled him a ‘serious talent. King has represented Scotland’s under-16s at youth level but has now switched his allegiance to the Czech Republic.
King is a “hotshot,” according to Leicester’s official website, and under-21s coach Leon McSweeney is eager to give him more playing time for the reserve team.
“We want to maximize his potential in front of goal and expose him to 21s football as much as possible because he can do that consistently,” McSweeney stated.
“It’s critical to get him minutes, and his response like that will only increase his time on the field.”
Maybe a first-team debut won’t be too far off, particularly if Odsonne Edouard doesn’t perform well when given the chance.
