Edinburgh, Scotland – In a stunning turn of events, Hibernian FC manager, David Gray has announced his resignation from the club, effective immediately.
Gray who took the reins in May 2022, cited personal reasons and a desire to “recharge and refocus” as the driving forces behind his unexpected decision.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at Hibernian FC, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together,” Gray said in a statement. “However, I feel this decision is necessary for my own well-being and to ensure the club continues to thrive.”
Under Gray’s leadership, Hibs secured a respectable 5th-place finish in the Scottish Premiership last season and reached the Scottish Cup quarterfinals.
Hibernian FC Chairman, Ron Gordon, expressed gratitude for Johnson’s contributions and surprise at his sudden departure.
Gray decision has taken us aback, but we respect his wishes,” Gordon said. “We’ll now focus on finding the right candidate to lead the team forward.”
Assistant Manager, Michael Nelson, will assume interim managerial duties until a permanent replacement is appointed.
