Norwich City youngster Lewis Shipley has agreed a late loan move to Cheltenham Town, according to reporter Pete O’Rourke.

Norwich City have had a busy summer transfer window with manager Johannes Hoff Thorup making the squad his own at Carrow Road.

The Canaries still have until 11pm to get any late deals done. However, at this stage, it seems likely that the focus will be on getting players off the books rather than bringing new players in.

A number of young prospects have headed out on loan in recent days, and it seems another set to follow that path is centre-back Lewis Shipley.

According to reporter Pete O’Rourke, the Norwich City youngster is set to drop down to League Two in order to find regular minutes with Cheltenham Town.

The deal has been agreed and will now be subject to the late completion of the necessary formalities.

Having spent last year with Accrington Stanley, this marks Shipley’s second senior loan and second stay in League Two.

Back to League Two

Shipley might still be waiting on his competitive Norwich City debut but the young centre-back gained some valuable experience while on loan with Accrington Stanley last season.

After an extensive youth career with the Canaries in which he featured heavily at both U18 and U21 level, Shipley got his first shot with the League Two side. He played 31 times for the club across all competitions, chipping in with two goals along the way.

Having featured a good amount in the north west, it will be hoped he can gain a similar level of action with Cheltenham Town should his 11th hour move to the club go through tonight.

Youngsters out on loan

As touched on before, Shipley is not the only Norwich City prospect to have headed out on loan this summer.

Daniel Barden has linked up with Swindon Town while all of Emmanuel Adegboyega, Ellis Craven, Vicente Reyes and Ken Aboh have headed out too. They’ve joined Dundee United, Boston United, Cambridge United and Stevenage respectively.

Shipley looks poised to join them in heading away from Carrow Road but the clock is ticking for any more to head out.

Of course, non league clubs are not confined by the transfer window, so perhaps more youngsters will head to clubs outside the EFL in the coming weeks.
