Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues attempt to drafting in defender

Coventry City have had a bid “rejected” for Peruvian full-back Oliver Sonne, it has been claimed in the Danish press.

The Sky Blues are in the market for a new attack-minded right-back to provide competition and back-up for first choice Milan van Ewijk and the 23-year-old Silkeborg player appears to fit the bill.

Newly relegated Burnley are also said to be interested in the player and are reported to have also had an offer rebuffed by the Danish top flight side, who appear determined to keep hold of their man. Sonne, however, feels it’s time for a “new chapter” in his career and could yet force the issue ahead of tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Danish newspaper Tipsbladet reported this lunchtime: “Oliver Sonne does not seem to be able to leave Silkeborg this time. Thus, Silkeborg has received several offers within the last few days without accepting them.

“The tip sheet can reveal that Championship club Coventry and Premier League relegated Burnley have both bid for the Peruvian national team player, but have also been rejected.”

Denmark-born Sonne joined Silkeborg three years ago and has seen his form earn recognition in his native Peru’s national team.

Speaking last month, the player indicated that he was ready to leave Silkeborg this summer to further his career, telling Tipsbladet: “The situation is that the club and I agree that it is this summer that I will be fired. They have brought in compensation.

“When I came to Silkeborg, I signed for two years, and then it went so well that I extended after half a year until 2026. There we shook hands that in the summer of 2024 – if everything went well – I would be sold.”

He added: “I also know that there is concrete interest in me now. So it has to be now and I feel 100 percent ready for a new chapter.”
