Nicolas Jackson could be on the move with Villa reported to be interested in his services
Aston Villa are interested in Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson before the transfer window closes, according to reports.
Unai Emery’s side are reportedly considering a move for the Senegalese striker, according to Caught Offside, as they would like to do more business before the transfer window’s climax on Friday, August 30, and have observed Jackson for “more than a year”.
Jackson already boasts a season’s experience in the Premier League; registering 14 goals and five assists in 35 games – although a criticism from fans and pundits was of his inconsistent finishing ability.
The 23-year-old would be fit and raring to go if a transfer were to materialise; he scored in Chelsea’s 6-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday and looks, at the moment, to be Enzo Maresca’s first-choice striker. However, with Chelsea being linked with Brentford and England striker Ivan Toney, Jackson could be pushed down the pecking order as a result.
Villa have already been fairly active in the window as they look to broaden their squad for the extra games in the calendar due to their participation in the newly formatted UEFA Champions League. Emery’s current forward options include Ollie Watkins – who will no doubt remain as first-choice – and Jhon Duran – who recently scored at West Ham United despite being linked with the Hammers throughout the window.
After Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at Villa Park, the Villa boss spoke about the potential for new arrivals at Bodymoor Heath. He said: “We are trying to be demanding how we can improve the squad, how we can improve some circumstances. Maybe we will need time to be stronger and this week we are going to analyse if there’s something we can add.”
