Caen striker Alexandre Mendy appears to be desperate to seal a move to Sunderland.

The summer transfer window slams shuts on August 30th, and for Sunderland target Alexandre Mendy, it’ll certainly be a nervy wait until then.

The striker, who scored 22 goals in Ligue 2 last season, finishing as the division’s highest-scorer, was first linked with Sunderland earlier this summer.

Quickly, it became apparant that Mendy is eager to leave Caen, and equally as eager to move to the Stadium of Light.

Mendy previously released a statement, further outlining his desire to leave Caen, though the French outfit have stood firm.

Caen were believed to want a fee of around £4million for Mendy. But it’s been suggested that Sunderland are waiting for Mendy’s price tag to drop.

Caen have since signed a new striker, potentially opening the door for Mendy to seal his long-awaited move away from the club.

Sunderland though have since signed Wilson Isidor on loan from Zenit and have held talks with Roko Simic at Red Bull Salzburg, so whether or not Sunderland still even want Mendy remains to be seen.

Alexandre Mendy social media message amid Sunderland-Caen saga

On Tuesday morning, Mendy posted a lengthy message on his Instagram story.

The 30-year-old has been quick to address speculation this summer, often surprising with how open he is about his desires.

His latest message translated to: “You will wait. You will pray. You will be frustrated. You will question everything.

“But you will continue to be patient. You will continue to pray. Then one day, when you least expect it, it will finally happen.

“So never stop believing.”

Is Alexandre Mendy on his way to Sunderland

Mendy’s message is certainly a cryptic one, and whether it hints at a move being in the making, or simply at him still hoping for a move, remains to be seen.

But it seems clear by now that Caen and of course Mendy too, both want a resolution to this saga.

And having made it clear that he wants to leave, Mendy staying doesn’t seem like a good option for either party, and so the ball is in Sunderland’s court.

But the Sunderland owners won’t pay more than they think Mendy is worth, even despite the recent sale of Jack Clarke to Ipswich Town.

Unless Caen have massively dropped their initial price tag, then Mendy to Sunderland still looks like a move that may not go through this summer.

Caen signing a striker though may change matters.
